Redefining Comfort and Individualization.
Revolutionizing what’s next in custom seating.
Matrix Seating began in the late 1970s as a Canadian research project developing one of the first dynamic custom seating systems. It evolved across Europe, refining technology that balanced precise support with therapeutic movement.
In the 2000s, entrepreneur and ATP Greg Sims recognized its potential and introduced Matrix to the United States. While clinicians valued its clinical outcomes, long adjustment times and U.S. reimbursement challenges made it difficult to sustain.
In 2020, as COVID-19 reshaped healthcare, Greg, now Founder and CEO of Matrix Seating USA, partnered with engineers at the University of Florida to reinvent the system. By integrating 3D printing, a new generation of seating emerged, engineered for airflow, adjustability, durability, and infection control. This innovation led to the first generation of AIREZ cushions and back supports.
Never one to stop innovating, Greg continued refining every detail. After years of research, testing, and clinical feedback, AIREZ 2.0 launched in August 2025, a revolutionary solution designed to protect skin, support complex postures, and promote independence. But the story of comfort, technology, and custom seating innovation has only just begun.
The Team
A cross-disciplinary team of ATPs, PTs/OTs, designers, and engineers working side-by-side to turn complex needs into simple, durable solutions. At the intersection of clinic and lab, we design, test, and refine the Matrix product line, built for real users, real outcomes, and everyday independence.

1980s
Custom-molded seating and Adjustable Micro-Modular Seating (AMMS) are created in the UK, pioneering modular support concepts for complex postural needs.
1990s
AMMS technology advances with new orthotic correction research and development across Sweden and the UK, refining adjustability and clinical accuracy.
2011
Matrix Seating USA opens in North America, introducing the Easy Fit Back Support and Matrix Complete Seating System, bringing precision molding to U.S. clinicians and ATPs.
2017
The launch of the Matrix Custom Back Support and Radian 360 Hardware expands customization options and enhances clinical adjustability.
2021
On September 22, 2021, Matrix unveils the industry’s first 3D printed, fully custom wheelchair back, setting a new benchmark for comfort, strength, and fit.
2022
On June 24, 2022, Matrix introduces the first 3D printed custom wheelchair cushion, eliminating foam while combining unmatched softness, stability, and precision support.
2025
Launching in August 2025, AIREZ 2.0 features Golden Ratio technology, a proprietary blend of soft, medium, and firm elastomer densities in a single lattice.
The result: perfectly balanced comfort, stability, and skin protection for every user.
